Recently I have been troubled because (a) the granola we like is imported from Germany and costs ¥600 for a tiny bag which seems excessive and (b) we have a box of oats the size of a small car sitting in the cupboard, which we bought from Costco a few months ago, immediately before it became too hot to eat porridge.
Last night I felt like a cartoon lightbulb had gone off above my head when I realised that I could probably use the oats to make my own granola. After a quick google search for recipes and a trip to the supermarket to buy flaked almonds I was ready to go. I combined a few different recipes and came up with this:
Ingredients:
4 cups oats, small pack (about 1/2 cup) of flaked almonds, small pack of mixed seeds, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1/4 cup honey, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 cup raisins
Directions:
Preheat
oven to 180 C. In a bowl mix the oats, mixed seeds, almonds, brown sugar, and
cinnamon. Warm the oil and honey in microwave, add vanilla.
Mix the liquids and the oat mixture, spread out in a layer over a baking tray. Bake for about 40 minutes, stirring every 10
minutes. When it is golden it is done. Let it cool and then stir
in raisins & put in an airtight container.
I had some for breakfast this morning and it was really good. Little discoveries like this make me ridiculously happy!
