small things
It's 7 weeks now til the baby's due to make his appearance, and I have a huge mental list of things I'd like to make before he arrives, but progress has been slow. I'm still working, and trying to sort the house out, and then when I do sit down to try and knit or sew the kitten thinks it is a fantastic game and makes a dive for the thread / yarn / fabric. I tried to do some hand quilting last night, and she promptly curled up on my lap and chewed through the thread.
One thing I did get around to was these sleeping bags - I didn't like the fabrics the ones in the shops were made from, and so - inspired by Di - made these from Burda pattern 9640, which was very quick and easy. The fabrics are a mix of cheap cottons from IKEA and favourites from Sprout Design and Cheeky Beaks. The fish one is lined with one of Mark's old shirts.
A little bit of knitting is been going on too, although not much is getting finished. I've been encouraged by the fabulous Ravelry: my name finally came up after a few months on the waiting list & it is so much fun to look through and see how other people have used patterns and yarns. I have 3 things in progress, the Big Bad Baby Blanket, which is on the backburner because it is taking forever and I'm sick of it, and a couple of cardigans. One is nearly finished, (it was finished, and then I realised the sleeves were too long and skinny so unravelled them) and the other is just started. Hopefully Mark will be able to distract Momo over the weekend so I can get some more done.
On a completely unrelated note, the kitten is hilarious. She fell in the toilet this morning (she must have jumped up, and not realised the lid was open) and is now sulking and looking mortified while she dries off.

Wonderful sleeping bags! My girls loved their sleeping bags - so useful and practical.

Aren't Burmese cat's the best! I've got two + an 8 month old bub. My Burmese girl sat in my lap my entire pregnancy. I've been trying to figure out from the photo's what part of Sydney you're living in. Is it near the technology park in Redfern? I used to live not far from there. Good luck in the next few weeks. I know you won't believe it now but you'll think the bub is even cuter than the kitten.

Hi-
I have been wanting to make these for my 7 month old boy. In the US sleepwear has flame retardant, but he will not be running around near flames (or anywhere at all yet.) I like the idea of making sleepwear without the chemicals. Do garments in Australia have these requirements? Or do you just use common sense safety like the baby can't get to a flame on his own and I will not carry him near one? Just curious.
