a birthday hat

IMG_2495
The felt crown is for Ali's 1st birthday, inspired by these*. It's made from Winterwood felt and a scrap of vintage ribbon, and was really easy and fun to put together. Embroidery is very compatible with watching the Olympics.
I shocked myself by finishing this a whole 3 weeks before Ali's birthday. This is totally out of character. I am the queen of last minute, and am always up late sewing and baking on Christmas Eve and before birthdays. I was congratulating myself on my excellent organisation, before remembering that I still have to finish my sister's birthday present. Her birthday is on Sunday. Unfortunately her initial is not "A", otherwise I would be tempted to give her this hat.

[Update: the birthday present was finished in time. Just. Yay!]

* I think there is a pattern for these crowns in Amanda's book, but I just improvised after looking at the picture and reading these instructions.

Oh yay for finishing! We can ignore the sister's present if you like and just focus on the finished crown. Yikes, 3 weeks till Ali's? That means 4 weeks till the Smurfs. I've got sewn banners floating about my head that I need to get out!

I'm sure Laura would love a crown too!! Can't believe Ali is nearly 1 - the last year has flown by! xxx

Oh, the gloves on flickr are for your sister. Oops. Lucky Ali, I never had enough time make one for CT for her birthday but we all have Christmas crowns. Wow your little boy is nearly one. Very different little man from the new born I discovered when I stumbled onto your blog....

That's awesome!
