In order to use up my fabric stash (or at least make a dent in it) I've dedicated the last three months of 2012 to stash-busting. You can read my blog post about it here. I am giving myself one point for every finished garment, with an extra point if I use fabric that is over 2 years old or a pattern that I had never tried before.
My goal is 30 points before the end of 2012. A couple of people have asked what will happen if I reach 30 points... I haven't actually planned a prize, the main reward will be that I have more space in the spare room, more things to wear, and that I don't feel guilty about having unused fabric and patterns lying around. And I wanted to encourage myself to use the fabric that's been sitting around for ages and the patterns I've never got around to trying.
Anyway, my tally for finished garments and points is:
2 - Blueberry Icecream Dress (2 points - 1 for the garment and 1 for using fabric that I bought in May 2010)
4 - Sweet Heart Dress (2 points - 1 for the garment and 1 for trying the Oliver + S Hopscotch dress pattern for the first time)
7 - Poppy Dress from Girls Style Book (Dress A). I used Liberty fabric that I bought in London in 2010, so this is 3 points - 1 for the finished garment, 1 for using old fabric and 1 for trying a new pattern.
11- 3 pairs of pyjama shorts for Ali based on the Storybook Pyjama pattern. 3 points for finished garments + 1 because one of them used fabric that is over 2 years old.
14 - 1 pair pyjama shorts for Milla. 3 points - 1 for garment + 1 for new pattern (Puppet Show shorts) + 1 for fabric over 2 years old (more like 6 or 7, bought when we lived in Tokyo.
16 - Simplicity 2451 denim skirt for me. 2 points, 1 for finished garment, 1 for new pattern.
18 - 2 more pairs of pyjama shorts for Milla, to go with bought t-shirts.
20 - another pair of pyjamas for Milla (top and bottom) to match a pair of Oliver + S Bedtime Story pyjamas I made Ali last year. I don't have that pattern in her size, so I made a pair of Puppet Show shorts for the bottoms and the Habitual Kimono pattern for the top.
21- another Oliver + S Hopscotch dress for Milla, in some O+S for Moda interlock with a contrasting ribbed neck.
========> This is where I was up to by the end of my challenge, so 21 points. I am going to keep tracking how long it takes for me to get to 30! But I have been distracted by sewing lots of quilts, so it might take a little while. <==========
23 - Cambie dress. Two points for this one, as it's a finished garment and the first time I've made this pattern. I cut this out back in November 2012 but then put it away over the busy Christmas / school holiday period, and then got distracted by quilts for the first few months of 2013. I wish I'd finished it sooner because it's so comfortable and a really good fit. Oh well, next summer. Finally finished in May 2013.
25 - Moss skirt. Finished item + new pattern. I have worn this to death since finishing it - definitely one of the most wearable & useful things I've ever sewn.
27 - Geranium Dress. Finished item + new pattern + fabric that's more than 2 years old (actually about 7 years old... I bought it in Tokyo). Super cute and easy to make... hopefully Milla will wear this a bit now, layered over a t-shirt and it will still fit for sumer.
30 - Another Geranium - in Washi Cotton. And, as a bonus, another Geranium - in Liberty corduroy from 2010. Yippee!
